Meet Move For Jenn Grant Recipient, Benton Morse!
Meet Benton Morse, the newest Move For Jenn Foundation grant recipient from Dundee, Michigan. When Benton was just shy of turning 11, he noticed that one of his legs looked bigger than the other. His parents originally thought he may have been bit by a spider judging by the swelling. To be safe, they took Benton to the ER. The ER doctors felt that something wasn't right, so they requested an X-ray and unfortunately, that X-ray confirmed a cancer diagnosis.
Benton underwent testing during the following weeks and was told he had a rare bone cancer called osteosarcoma. He started chemotherapy right away and on June 1, 2022, he underwent the amputation of his right leg. Benton finished chemo in October and received news that his scans were clear.
Unfortunately, Benton had wound care and prosthetic issues for almost two years before finding a wonderful new prosthetic office, Reform Prosthetics in Ohio. His new prosthetist, Zach Weber, created a new custom socket for Benton, giving him a much better fit of his prosthetic. Now that he was finally feeling more comfortable in his prosthetics, he has decided that he is ready to run!
Benton's grant application stated that he is excited to participate in track events at his middle school, and he needs a running blade in order to do so. We are so excited to be able to give Benton the gift of movement with a Fillauer Obsidian Running Blade and an Ottobock Quick Change Adapter, which will allow him to swap out his “feet” on the same socket easily and safely.
We're cheering you on in all that you do, Benton! Welcome to the Move For Jenn family!
