Turning Loss Into Lifesaving Impact: $27,000 for Sarcoma Research

Dr. Joshua Patt, Dusty Harman, & Jenn Andrews

On Monday, March 30 at the Move For Jenn Open, a powerful moment stopped the day in its tracks.

Surrounded by a community that believes deeply in the mission, Dusty Harman stepped forward to present a $27,000 check to Dr. Patt of Atrium Health, a Move For Jenn board member and the very doctor who walked alongside Jenn in her fight.

It was more than a check.
It was a full circle moment.

From Personal Loss to Purpose

Dusty’s journey with sarcoma is deeply personal. After losing his wife Jenny, as well as her uncle, Jeff Grose, and grandmother, Faye Grose, to this aggressive and rare cancer, Dusty and his children, Claire and Cooper, made a decision to fight back in a different way.

That fight became the Sarcoma Sucks 5K.

What started as a way to honor loved ones and raise awareness quickly grew into something bigger. A movement fueled by community, resilience, and the belief that we can do better for sarcoma patients and families.

This year, that movement showed up in a major way.

$27,000 Raised. One Mission Shared.

Through the Sarcoma Sucks 5K, Dusty, Claire, Cooper and their community raised $27,000 to support sarcoma specific research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Center.

Research that is desperately needed.

Sarcoma accounts for only a small percentage of cancers, but it is incredibly aggressive and underfunded, leaving patients with limited treatment options and too many unknowns.

That is why partnerships like this matter.

Every dollar raised is a step toward better treatments, more personalized care, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients facing this disease.

A Moment That Meant More

There was something especially meaningful about this presentation.

To hand that check directly to Dr. Patt, someone who is not only supporting this research but also cared for Jenn personally, was a reminder of why this work is so important.

It connected the past to the future.
The personal to the clinical.
The loss to the hope.

Moving the Mission Forward

At Move For Jenn, we believe in funding research that changes lives.

Because of supporters like you, and partners like Dusty Harman and the Sarcoma Sucks 5K community, we are able to continue investing in sarcoma specific research right here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Research that is giving families something they need more than anything else.

Hope.

This $27,000 is not just a number.
It is progress.
It is possibility.
It is a promise that we will keep pushing forward until better answers exist.

Together, we are turning grief into action and action into impact.

And we are just getting started.

Thank you to Dusty, Claire, Cooper and their community for making this gift possible!
