Meet Our New Grant Recipient, Emily Fogle!

Help us welcome our Emily Fogle to the Move For Jenn Foundation family!

Emily, a 26-year-old Fort Mill, South Carolina resident was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when she was just 15-years-old. Emily said, "I was previously a healthy, involved, and active teenager so my experience with bone cancer really shook up my whole world. As the oldest of four children in my family, I was extremely fortunate that my parents were able to provide me with the 'everyday' prosthetics that insurance covers. Now as an adult working full time and on my own insurance, I've realized that obtaining even just a normal prosthesis is financially tough, especially with my prosthetist being out of state."

Unfortunately a reality for so many, specialized prosthetics, like activewear prosthetics are deemed medically unnecessary by insurance companies, leaving amputees with out of pocket costs upwards of $50,000.

Married two years ago, Emily and her husband love spending time outdoors together, "despite my limitations," says Emily. They especially enjoy spending time in the water at the lake or the beach, where her in-laws live, and she looks forward to enjoying the water with her future children.

Because every day prosthetics contain metal, they are not conducive for water usage as the pieces can rust. When Emily reached out to us in hopes of support for a water safe prosthetic, we were excited to help.

We were thrilled to be able to surprise Emily and her husband at our sixth annual Pajamas All Day 5K on February 22. On stage in front of hundreds of supporters, Move For Jenn Foundation founder, Jenn Andrews, called Emily to the stage to surprise her with the good news. Not only would we be funding a waterproof foot and socket for her, we would also be working with our friends at Amputee Blade Runners to ensure the best fit!

Amputee Blade Runners, a nonprofit based in Nashville, specializes in providing high-performance prosthetics to athletes and active individuals. Their expertise will be instrumental in crafting the perfect prosthetic for Emily, giving her the chance to get back to doing what she loves.

Emily is a bright light who openly shares her journey with others and we can't wait to see her back out on the water!

Keep up with Emily here.
