Meet our Newest Grant Recipient, Carson Fox!
Meet our newest grant recipient, Carson!
16-year-old Carson is from Seal Beach, California. In the spring of 2021, Carson was suffering from immense pain around his left knee. During this time, Carson broke his ankle playing football, which required an MRI and x-rays. This led to Carson's telangiectatic osteosarcoma diagnosis in April of 2021.
Carson started chemotherapy, which his rapidly-growing tumor did not respond to. In May of 2021, Carson underwent emergency surgery for an above the knee amputation. Post-amputation, he has undergone six cycles of intensive chemotherapy. Carson is back to playing football as a long snapper and recently started running track.
Carson's dad said, "Carson has always been a super active young man. Before he was diagnosed, he played baseball, basketball, and football. He would surf, wakeboard, skateboard, snowboard and mountain bike. Even during his chemo treatments, he was in the gym every chance he could get."
We will be gifting Carson a BioDapt Moto Knee and Versa Foot, giving him the opportunity to once again participate in the water and snow sports he loves. "BioDapt is a company that designs, manufactures and distributes high performance lower limb prosthetic components used for action sports and other similar activities."
Carson says, "To be able to perform these activities at the level I was before would be life-changing." We are so excited to be able to give Garson the gift of movement. Carson's order has been placed and we can't wait to update you all on how much Carson accomplishes once his new BioDapt Moto Knee and Versa Foot arrive!
Sarcoma Fact: Telangiectatic osteosarcoma is typically a purely lytic lesion with a permeative destructive growth pattern. This rapidly growing tumor often expands the contour of bone and shows features of cortical disruption with minimal or no periosteal new bone formation. - National Library of Medicine
